Job Description: RED are a leading UK recruitment consultancy based in the north-west. RED deal nationally and internationally with leading clients from within power, energy, construction and transportation industries.
For one of our key clients in the UK we have an opportunity for a principle engineer to work on a permanent basis in the north east.
Reporting to the engineering manager, as principle engineer you will be responsible for providing protection designs, solutions and technical input to contracts and all areas within the employee’s business area. Responsibility for ensuring design validation of Secondary Engineering solutions. Responsible for line management of the Engineering staff where required.
Tasks: Responsible for the production of protection and control schematics for up to 400kV substations. Provision of secondary design verification on NGT contracts. Line manager for the engineering staff.
Holder of National Grid TP141 Protection and Control Design Authorisation. Responsible for the production of Engineering and Test Specifications for new and existing solutions. Accountable for attending internal and external design reviews for technical input. Responsible for the production of design risk assessments for all design solutions. Ensures quality and consistency by carrying out functional testing during the Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) phase with the client. Assists in Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and specialist commissioning assistance when required. Accountable for mentoring new members of the engineering department. Maintaining consistency of design on each contract by adherence to processes. Attends Technical meetings with the client as and when required. Works closely with fellow engineers and project managers.
Education: HNC / Degree Qualified in Electrical Engineering or equivalent. Knowledge/Languages:
Experience: Extensive design experience within the Electricity Transmission and Distribution industry. Fully conversant with the latest Transmission and Distribution standards & technologies. Fully conversant with Health & Safety regulations (including CDM regulations) applicable to the design of High Voltage substations. Extensive knowledge of protection schemes. Good standard of IT literacy – especially Word and Excel Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills.
